Lankenau is the only hospital Pennsylvania to receive this distinction

(Wynnewood, PA, November 14, 2016) – For the tenth year, Lankenau Medical Center, part of Main Line Health’s Lankenau Heart Institute, has been named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals® by Truven Health Analytics in the “Top Teaching Hospitals with Cardiovascular Residency Programs” category. Lankenau is the only hospital in Pennsylvania to be named to the list.

“This award is emblematic of the continued excellence in cardiovascular care the Lankenau Heart Institute provides for our region,” said Phil Robinson, President, Lankenau Medical Center. “Our dedicated team of clinicians works collaboratively to provide, expert, patient-centered care, carefully personalized to meet the unique needs of the diverse patients we serve.”

Lankenau Medical Center is one of only five hospitals in the region able to perform transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), and is among the highest performing TAVR Centers in the nation. Currently Lankenau Medical Center is one of only two centers in the region participating in PARTNER 3, the first nation-wide randomized clinical study to address whether the benefits of TAVR also translate to patients at low risk for surgery.

Lankenau is also heavily involved in clinical research, and its cardiac surgeons have performed more than 1,500 robotic heart bypass procedures—more than any hospital in the nation. Lankenau Medical Center was recently named among Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of “100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Heart Programs.” U.S. News & World Report also recognized the hospital as high-performing for heart failure and heart bypass surgery in its common care ratings.

“Our expert clinical staff works collaboratively to provide the highest quality of cardiovascular care to our patients and this recognition reinforces our commitment to excellence,” says William Gray, MD, System Chief of Cardiology and President of Main Line Health’s Lankenau Heart Institute.

Truven’s study, now in its 18th year, uses a balanced national scorecard of hospital performance metrics to identify the 50 highest-performing cardiovascular services lines in the nation. The arduous processes used to calculate and measure hospital service lines leverage industry-leading, risk-adjusted methodologies, developed and maintained by Truven Health scientists over several years. These processes are widely regarded as the leading program for evaluating leadership impact in a hospital, as well as evaluating quality indicators and efficiencies.
