A memorial service at the site of the collision in Tempi, as well as strikes in nearby Larissa, will take place on Wednesday to mark one year since Greece’s worst-ever train crash, in which 57 people were killed and scores more were injured.
The service will be held at around noon, while the parishes of the Larissa Metropolis will start ringing 57 mourning bells at around 10:00, in honour of the 57 victims of the fatal crash.
At 10:30 on Wednesday, a strike rally is planned by the Larissa Labour Centre, during which a monument dedicated to the crash victims will be unveiled.
A rally is also planned on Wednesday by the Larissa branch of the civil servants’ union confederation ADEDY, which has called a 24-hour strike to mark the tragedy.
