New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Tuesday, speaking at a citizens’ gathering on Salamina, that one of his key commitments was very specific: “The next four-year term will be the four years of better salaries for every Greek woman and man. We will raise the average [monthly] salary in our country to 1,500 euros and the minimum wage to 950 euros. With more investments, more jobs, with employers willing to pay better salaries because they are seeking skilled staff”.

In other words, Mitsotakis said, “the next four years will be the four-year period in which the country can make a great leap and address the many difficulties and dysfunctions that come from the past. I am aware that we have not resolved all the problems, I am aware that there are problems with high prices. High prices in food persist and we must tackle this problem.”

ND’s leader also referred to the demographic problem, which he said “is tending to take on the characteristics of a crisis.”

“We will support the Greek family and especially working mothers, so they can more easily have children and at the same time combine the duties of raising children with the fathers – who should have an ever-greater role – with the opportunity to have a professional career. More women should be able to join the labour market and support the family income,” he added.
