Stella J. Yiannos passed away on May 23, 2018 peacefully at home.

 

 

STELLA J. YIANNOS

She was born in Chester, PA to the late Demetrios and Irene Baziotes. Stella was a graduate of Chester High School and Philadelphia College of Art where she received a BA in Fine Arts in Fashion Design.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Peter N. Yiannos. Stella is survived by her children, Nikos Yiannos , Daphne Skoutelas and Demetrios Yiannos (Tanya), her grandchildren, Caliope, Stellanie, Marina Yiannos, Panos, Charissa, Ariana Skoutelas, Panos, Kyra and Evie Yannos,  her brother, Paul Baziotes (Alexandra) and many cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Stella was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She taught Sunday School and was a member and former president of the Hellenic University Club of Wilmington. Stella also held memberships in Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope, and actively supported many Greek School programs. Side by side with her husband, she helped establish the Interdisciplinary Center for Hellenic Studies (ICHS) in 2001 at Stockton University in New Jersey, which has evolved to five professorships in Hellenic/Classical Studies; they have donated the professorship of “Greek Language & Literature”. Stella was also active in politics and was a strong supporter of Vice President Biden throughout his career. Above all, Stella was most passionate about her grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, whether at her children’s and grandchildrens’ school or sporting events, or whether on vacation in Ocean City, NJ or in Greece.

 

Friends may call on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. (Trisagion at 7:00 p.m.) at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt. 202 South of Silverside Road) Wilmington, DE 19803. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 26th at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 30 E. Forge Road, Media, PA 19063. Burial will be at Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N. Broom Street, Wilm., DE 19806 or Stockton University’s Hellenic Studies Program, Stockton University Foundation, 101 Vera King Farris, Galloway, NJ 08205.
