It is not a coincidence that Lesvos and Ouzo are connected in the minds of people. The history of Greece’s “national drink” is rooted in the island of Lesvos and the coast of Asia Minor.
On the island there are 16 distilleries that produce Ouzo of Mytilene and Plomari, both Protected Geographical Indications.
Ouzo Fest is organised annually by Lesvos Association of Distillers. It is a unique festival of ouzo tasting, where visitors have the chance to taste more than 40 ouzo labels, meet the distillers, taste the gastronomy of Lesvos, discover the secrets of ouzo and enjoy it the traditional way.
Musical and gastronomic events at the local taverns and kafeneia will accompany the festival this year, giving visitors the chance to experience the authentic culture that traditionally accompanies ouzo: good company, mezedes (Greek appetizers) and music.
The festival will be held on 14 & 15 July in Mytilene and on July 22 in Plomari.

Ouzo Fest 2017
Λέσβος και Ούζο είναι συνδεδεμένα στο μυαλό κάθε Έλληνα. Καθόλου τυχαία αφού η ιστορία του γνωστού ως «εθνικού μας ποτού» έχει τις ρίζες της στο νησί της Λέσβου και τα παράλια της Μικράς Ασίας.
Στο νησί υπάρχουν 16 ποτοποιίες που παράγουν Ούζο Μυτιλήνης και Πλωμαρίου, Προστατευόμενες Γεωγραφικές Ενδείξεις και οι δύο.
Κάθε χρόνο, από το 2013, ο Σύνδεσμος Ποτοποιών – Αποσταγματοποιών Λέσβου διοργανώνει το Ouzo Fest, ένα μοναδικό φεστιβάλ γνωριμίας με το ούζο, την κουλτούρα του και τα μυστικά του. Ο επισκέπτης έχει τη δυνατότητα να δοκιμάσει περισσότερες από 40 ετικέτες ούζου, να συνομιλήσει με τους ποτοποιούς, να μυηθεί στα μυστικά του ούζου, να δοκιμάσει τη γαστρονομία της Λέσβου και να απολαύσει το ούζο του στα γραφικά καφενεδάκια της Μυτιλήνης και του Πλωμαρίου.
Μουσικές και γαστρονομικές εκδηλώσεις στα τοπικά μαγαζιά θα πλαισιώσουν φέτος το φεστιβάλ, δίνοντας την ευκαιρία στους επισκέπτες να ζήσουν την αυθεντική κουλτούρα που συνοδεύει παραδοσιακά το ούζο: παρέα, μεζέδες, μουσική και άρωμα Αιγαίου.
Το φεστιβάλ θα πραγματοποιηθεί φέτος στις 14 & 15 Ιουλίου στη Μυτιλήνη και στις 22 Ιουλίου στο Πλωμάρι.
