Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with a bipartisan delegation of the United States House of Representatives at Maximos Mansion on Tuesday.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Adam Smith, while US Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis also attended the meeting.
According to sources, the Greek premier paid emphasis to the strategic significance of the northern Greek port city of Alexandroupolis in terms of energy security and supply, while he also noted Greece’s rising role as a data processing and storage hub, following investments by Amazon, Microsoft and Google.
Russia’s instrumentalization of energy against Europe was also discussed, and the Greek prime minister outlined his government’s implemented support measures for households and businesses.
Finally, Mitsotakis briefed the US congress members of Turkey’s challenges to Greek sovereignty and its escalating aggressive rhetoric.
Hellenic National Defense Chief of General Staff, General Constantine Floros, also met with the House Armed Services Committee the same day.
