PRESS RELEASE
Program has already offered
more than 150 internships since its launch
Athens, February 2016 – The Global Shapers Athens hub, owners of the ReGeneration program, hosted the annual Greek traditional “pita-cutting” event to welcome the new year. The event was attended by prominent member of the business and media communities, ReGeneration interns, hiring companies and program contributors. Participants celebrated together the completion of the first two successful cycles of the program and the beginning of the third cycle, which has already started and includes already a high participation level.
The ReGeneration program by the Global Shapers Athens Hub – a World Economic Forum initiative – addresses young talented graduates from all disciplines who are interested in applying for relevant internships in Greece. The program is kindly supported and sponsored by The Hellenic Initiative (www.thehellenicinitiative.com) and The Coca-Cola Company. The two sponsors contribute to the programs execution through financial support, access to their networks and know-how.
In the 1st ReGeneration cycle, 21 companies offered internships to 55 young graduates, 80% of whom renewed their contracts. In the second cycle, 36 companies added 105 young people to their workforce. Moreover, each candidate was given the opportunity to participate in 80 hours of training and offered up to 50 hours of voluntary work to NGOs participating in the program. Worth noting that during the 2nd cycle of the program, interns collaborated with six NGOs (‘Boroume’, ‘Shedia’, ‘Emfasis’, ‘Humane Humans, ‘Desmos’, ‘Plision’), which aim to address the social issue of homelessness. Through these community volunteer activations, more than one ton of food was collected within a three-month period.
Interest in the program continue to increase both from young graduates and hiring companies: the number of applications for the 3rd cycle reached 6,300 (in comparison to 4,250 applications submitted for the 2nd cycle and 2,800 for the first cycle), while the 3rd cycle of the program has started very positively with 36 companies expressing an interest to offer 100 internship positions. The ReGeneration program’s success and community impact has resulted in the program’s recognition with three “HR Awards” in 2015*.
Panos Madamopoulos-Moraris, ReGeneration Co-Founder stated: “We are very happy that the initiative of the Global Shapers Athens Hub has been established already in the Greek market with an increasing interest both by young talented graduates, as well as by companies. It is also very important that through the ReGeneration program, many young people have renewed their contracts beyond the internship period. Thus, we are talking about an excellent opportunity of talent absorption by the market during a period when unemployment is one of the major issues amongst young people. I would also like to thank our sponsors and all the hiring companies that believed in the program and embraced it from the onset. Without them, it wouldn’t be possible to develop such a significant program in such a short period of time.”
