We are so grateful and blessed to be preparing for the first 40 Day Lent, Holy Week and Easter Sunday Celebration in the rebuilt St. Nicholas Church and National Shrine. After years of hard work and dedication the church which was destroyed on 9/11/2011 reopened on December 6, 2023, becoming, once again, a symbol of resilience and hope for the Greek Orthodox community.

Over the last two months the Church and National Shrine has grown into a place where people can come together to pray and seek solace operating as well as assumed the daily rhythms of an active parish with frequent services every week.

As we look towards Lent, we note that there are still many liturgical items that the Shrine needs to complete services, and we humbly appeal for your support in acquiring them. These items include altar covers, Holy Week vestments (in “mourning” style, for the ascetic character of the Lent), lavara, and other ecclesiastical items that are central to the liturgical life of the church during 40 day Lent, Holy Week and Easter Sunday Celebration.

A total donation of $42,000 will help us purchase all the necessary liturgical items to make the church a fully functional and beautiful place of worship this Spring and for many, many years to come.

Your donation will not only support the liturgical life of the church, but it will also help preserve the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001. By supporting St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine, you are supporting a symbol of resilience, hope, and healing for the Greek Orthodox community and for the nation as a whole. Your generosity will help ensure that future generations can continue to experience the rich history and tradition of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine.
