WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) released the following statement today after Republican Congressional leaders unveiled their plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act:

“After seven years of rhetorical bluster about the Affordable Care Act, and following months of secret meetings without bipartisan outreach or public hearings, Republicans in the House have finally revealed their health care plan – a bill that will cause millions of people to lose health care coverage and do severe economic damage in Maryland and around the country. The bill falls woefully short of President Trump’s promise to provide ‘great health care for much less money.’ In fact, like many of Trump’s promises, Republicans are saying one thing and doing entirely the opposite. The Republican repeal plan will raise health care costs, make it harder for Americans to get insurance coverage and give large tax breaks to the wealthy and to well-connected special interests.

“As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee – where the Republican repeal bill heads first for a full committee markup – I will fight tirelessly to protect the Affordable Care Act.”

Sincerely,
Signature
John P. Sarbanes
Maryland’s Third Congressional District
