Seventeen projects to upgrade ports in more remote areas of Greece will receive a total of 110 million euros under the NSRF 2021-20217 Sectoral Program ‘Transport’, according to the Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy Ministry.

The plans are part of the ministry’s strategic planning for secure island access, upgrade of port infrastructure, and strengthening of territorial and social cohesion, and they come under the Development Program for Contracts of Strategic Importance. Some 30 ports will benefit under the program, which is bugdeted at 180 million euros in total.

Goals include improvement of security and interconnectivity of islands – especially the more remote ones – and improvements in communication with corresponding Regions and mainland Greece’s metropolitan centers.
