“The climate crisis is the biggest challenge of our generation which we should address with realism, prudence and foremost effeciency,” Environment and Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis σαιδ to the 1st Conference of Engineers and Public Works Contractors Fund “Redefining the Future Horizons” which is held under the auspices of the Bank of Greece and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
Skylakakis made a special reference to the management of resources since, as he said, funds are limited in relation to the challenges.
“We are living in a period when the climate crisis is intensifying and the need for a green transition is becoming more and more urgent. It is important to have a sense of the real needs of public policies, especially in terms of resources but also in prioritisation and action.”
On Greece’s efforts, Skylakakis pointed out that “there are particularly positive elements, especially in what has to do with pollutants, as we emit less than the goals we have set and to which we have committed at the EU level. We have a much faster penetration of RES than most countries in the world, so we are working on the green transition at key levels”, he said.
Finally, the minister said that “the climate crisis should be taken for granted in the next 20-30 years as the green transition, if succeeds, will improve things only after two decades.”
