Greece will continue to actively take part in the discussion on reforming the economic governance framework of the European Union, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Thursday regarding the orientations set out by the European Commission in a proposal adopted the previous day.
“Greece participates – and will continue to participate – in these discussions actively and creatively, with responsible and thorough proposals and with the aim that the new economic edifice of the European Union will ensure that medium- and long-term stability and sustainability of public finances are combined with the achievement of sustainable growth rates,” Staikouras said.
Specifically, the minister stated the following:
“Yesterday, the European Commission presented its proposal for a reformed EU economic governance framework. A proposal which recognises the need for significant changes in the current framework and contributes to the relevant discussions taking place on a constructive basis.
All those involved – member states and institutions of the European Union – recognise the need for common, realistic rules, which ensure the sustainability of public debt and, at the same time, strengthen sustainable, inclusive economic growth in Europe, through the implementation of investments and reforms.
Greece participates – and will continue to participate – in these discussions actively and creatively, with responsible and thorough proposals and with the aim that the new economic edifice of the European Union will ensure that the medium- and long-term stability and sustainability of public finances will be combined with the achievement of sustainable growth rates.”
