The government will support those affected by the devastating fires, while it will continue to invest in prevention measures within the capacity of the Greek economy, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Tuesday in an interview with Mega TV.
Marinakis called the firefighters “leaders in this major battle together with the Security Forces” and said that the firefighting means have also increased by 50% over the last years reaching 89 aerial means, while the ground forces have also increased. Marinakis also said that the government listens to and trusts the experts, not only the scientists at the level of prevention, but also the experts at the level of forest firefighting.
“It is not true that the government has taken less or no action for prevention. More funds have been allocated compared to previous years, but the phenomenon has taken dimensions,” said Marinakis.
He underlined that the absolute priority is human life, followed by the property of citizens, businesses, in general, that is, “the protection of the property of people, of all citizens in the country, and obviously the land.”
