Viva Wallet Holdings Software Development SA completed the transfer of a 48.5% stake to JP Morgan, based on an agreement signed in January 2022, it announced on Tuesday.
Founders of Viva Wallet Haris Karonis and Makis Antypas remain majority shareholders, retaining 51.5% of Viva Wallet’s share capital.
In the context of the transaction, JP Morgan converted Viva Wallet’s convertible debenture loans, nullifying the Greek company’s loan debt. Viva Wallet also raised its capital by 100 million euros, which was covered by JP Morgan.
According to its site, Viva Wallet is the leading European cloud-based neobank, committed to developing cutting-edge technology that transforms the future of payments, with the aim of unifying the fragmented European payment space. It has local branches in 24 European countries. Its innovations include the Tap-on-Phone Viva Wallet POS app that turns Android devices into terminals, and the Smart Checkout payment gateway that raises conversion rates in online transactiosn by up to 21%.
