The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June 2024 compared with June 2023 increased by 2.3%, according to a report by the independent statistical agency ELSTAT released on Tuesday. In June 2023, the annual rate of change of the CPI was 1.8%. The CPI in June 2024 compared with May 2024 increased by 0.5%. In June 2023, the monthly rate of change of the CPI was 0.6%, the report added.
The average CPI for the twelve-month period from July 2023 to June 2024, compared with the corresponding index for the period July 2022 to June 2023 increased by 2.8%. The annual rate of change of the average CPI between the twelve-month period July 2022 to June 2023 in comparison to the period July 2021 to June 2022 was 7.0%.
Despite the fact that the further rise in food inflation was restricted to 2.1% overall, notable exceptions included the price of olive oil (up 54.8%), while there were also steep increases in the cost of air passenger transport (19.7 %), holiday packages (12.7%), tourist and travel accommodation (12%), health insurance (14%) and natural gas (13.1%).
