Dr. George Nikolaidis was elected as Chairperson of the Lanzarote Committee of the Council of Europe. Mr. Nikolaidis also serves as the Director at the Mental Health and Social Welfare Division of the Institute of Child Health in Greece and as a Scientific Responsible at the Day Center of “The Smile of the Child” specialized on the provision of mental health services to children and teenagers victims of any form of violence.
The election of Dr. Nikolaidis honors and recognizes the contribution of Greece to the work of the Lanzarote Committee, whereas it creates more possibilities for the promotion of the Greek experience towards an effective protection of children against violence, exploitation and any form of victimization.
The Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse provides for the establishment of a Committee of the Parties to monitor its implementation. The systematic monitoring of the Convention is one of its major strengths.
