A new bill will be tabled in Greek Parliament to promote professional training, upgrade the University of Thrace in Komotini, and modernize the operation of the Athens Academy, Education, Religious Affairs & Sports Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis said on Tuesday.
Pierrakakis presented the plan at the cabinet meeting earlier in the day, and then posted information on it on social media platforms.
He said that the framework of trade schools would be upgraded to respond better to current market needs. The Democritus University of Thrace, one of the largest universities in Greece, will be upgraded to include new departments in high-demand specializations. It will also incorporate such existing academic divisions in the region of Thrace.
Finally, in terms of the Academy of Athens, the framework of operation will be updated to include transparency, faster election of new members, a fairer promotion of its collective departments, and boosting of its extroversion, Pierrakakis said.
