The silent, Greek, and Eastern Orthodox middle class attended in standing room only, with some persons standing outside, at the August 15th religious holiday of the Kimisis (Dormition) of the Theotokou at the Transfiguration of Christ Church on Breakwater Road, Mattituck. “I thank all who came to celebrate as an ecclesiastical family,” said Rev. Father Andrew Cadieux of the Transfiguration Church. Over 350 + persons attended a packed church. Eastern Orthodox Christians observe August 15th as the “Summer Pasha”,  the second most important holiday.

A Greek festival followed up to 8 pm with live music by the Asteri band. FREE admission. Authentic Greek cuisine, loukoumades, and traditional homemade desserts were offered. The popular flea market was held. Parishioner Billy said “we have the beach, fresh fish, and our Greek Orthodox church. What more do we want? This is paradise.”  Many persons can have demonstrations that often go against civility and hundreds attend mask-less parties. They believe they can go to church in person. What is unsaid is understood.
