Philadelphians will soon have the chance to enjoy mouthwatering burgers and sides while making an impact on world hunger when Hunger Burger opens February 2nd in the Reading Terminal Market.

Hunger Burger – “Patties with a Purpose” – will offer the freshest ingredients, and highest quality meat for their distinctive menu items while enabling their customers to help those in local and global communities. “Buy One, Feed One” is their mission and with every burger sold, Hunger Burger will use a portion of their profits to feed a child in need. Hunger Burger has been a six-year dream for husband and wife team George and Kim Mickel, who have a combined 61 years of experience in the restaurant industry. Their passion for combating hunger began after the Mickels traveled to El Salvador with their church to work alongside King’s Castle, supporting feeding programs. “We fell in love with the people there,” George said. “We were so impacted by them and it has filled our lives with purpose. We have a passion to help such grateful and thankful people.” Philanthropic passion coupled with the desire to offer delicious meals created a tasty avenue for the family to give back.

Set to open on February 2nd, Hunger Burger will offer burgers, shakes and more. Their all natural, Black Angus beef burgers will be their staple and ten different flavored shakes made with Bassett’s Ice Cream – a Philadelphia tradition since 1861 – will be available. Their creative and delectable breakfast burgers and lobster mac ‘n’ cheese are just some of their other menu items that will add unique offerings for the Reading Terminal Market. The Mickels hope their business model will stimulate generosity in other businesses. “There is so much opportunity for profitable businesses to incorporate giving back, but few do,” George said. “We’re in business because people give us business, so we must give back. We want to inspire other companies to do the same.” The Mickels currently own two other restaurants in the Reading Terminal Market – By George! Pizza, Pasta, & Cheesesteaks offering handmade, brick oven pizza and Mezze, a Mediterranean eatery.
