Acclaimed actress and screenwriter Nia Vardalos used her social media pages to express her support for the people of Greece.
Best known for her leading role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Vardalos shared her pride for her Greek heritage on her Facebook page. She also expressed the fact that she has encountered such hurtful comments towards her mother country as “they should have paid their taxes.”

She responded as follows, “The ignorance of this comment is profoundly upsetting and selectively obtuse. I would have hoped society wouldn’t simply swallow the jaded media’s typical dissemination of false information.”

Her response was quite clever, and it illustrated the work ethic and values that most people of Greek descent in the motherland and abroad live by. “Greece is a beautiful nation of hard-working, loving people who would invite you into their home and even give you their bed,” Vardalos added.

Being of Greek origin, this Digital Journalist fully agrees with Vardalos’ statement, and the Academy Award nominated screenwriter also nailed her subsequent comment, “Please don’t judge a country’s people based on the actions of a government.”

Speaking of Vardalos, she will be releasing a sequel to her critically-acclaimed My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which will be out in March of 2016, entitled My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, where she will reprise her role of Toula, and heartthrob actor John Corbett will also star as her husband, Ian Miller.
