Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Sunday posted what he said would be the last weekly review of the government’s work for the summer, before a brief vacation. He started with an overview of government actions during the preceding seven months, particularly noting the programmes providing personal assistants for the disabled, and those to acquaint people with disabilities and elderly people with new technologies.

On economic issues, he referred to the one-off support for electricity bills in August and the good news from ELSTAT concerning unemployment, while also noting the transformation of the operation of eight public utilities to improve their ability to serve the public.
He highlighted the merger of the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund (HFSF) and the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) with the Growthfund – The National Fund of Greece, referring to the creation of the new National Investment Fund, and the decision to invest 50% of HRADF revenues from port contracts for upgrading port facilities, thus improving the tourism product and daily life of citizens.

Regarding high prices, Mitsotakis said the measures to restrict food inflation were bringing results for the third consecutive month in July, with the inflation rate at 1.4% compared to 2.3% in the Eurozone, while consumer associations reported that prices were lower by 1.56% relative to 2023 in 13 categories of products in supermarkets.
The prime minister also referred to the launch of a new department of the police force that will be responsible for serving court documents, guarding courtrooms and enforcing court decisions.

He concluded his post by congratulating Greek athletes competing in the Paris Olympics, while noting the publication of a new law on sports violence and sports club issues in the Government Gazette. Lastly, he announced that the culture ministry has decided to make 2025 a year dedicated to composer Mikis Theodorakis, to mark the centenary since his birth.
