The lighting of the Georgios Schwartz Mansion in the village of Ampelakia, near Larisa, is to be revamped as part of a project for the conservation and refurbishing of its murals and wooden elements, the culture ministry announced on Sunday.
Culture Minister Lina Mendoni noted that the mansion, built in 1787 and completed in 1798 was a visitable monument, which was built as a residence but also served as the headquarters of the Ampelakia Cooperative, which had traded in the region’s signature red yarn.
“It is an exceptional example of traditional 18th-century architecture. The study on the lighting of the Georgios Schwartz Mansion completes the museological and electromechanical study, with the aim of creating a single visual identity and the right environment – separately for each room – in accordance with the conceptual and spatial sub-sections of the monument. With the completion of the conservation work on the murals, painted surfaces and wooden elements of the Mansion, and with the lighting of the building’s exterior and interior, a very interesting historical landmark for Ampelakia is showcased and a strong pole for boosting visitability to the region is created,” Mendoni said.
