I would like to invite you to “The Hellenic Rebetika and Turkish Music Concert”, a unique concert of musical bridge building, featuring the Hellenic Rebetika Ensemble, an authentic Greek rebetika ensemble led by Julie Ziavras vocalist/musical director, sharing the stage with the Turkish International Musical Ensemble.

 

Rebetika, the urban blues of Greece, is a synthesis of Greek traditional music and Turkish Asia Minor cafe music, whose emblematic instrument is the bouzouki.

The Hellenic Rebetika Ensemble will include Musical Director Julie Ziavras (vocals, guitar), Kostas Psarros (bouzouki/vocals), Mavrothis Kontanis (oud/vocals), Costas Baltazanis (guitar), Megan Gould(violin) and Steve Vavagiakis (hand percussion).

The Turkish and International Music Ensemble, Inc. (TIME) is led by Nedim Katgi, Musical/Artistic Director and pianist. It includes instrumentalists Jenap Jon Turk (violin), Hakan Inan (oud), Mustafa Demirci (kanoon), Sal Mamudoski (clariner), Senol Kucuk (darbuka) and a chorus.

The concert is sponsored by EMBCA, The Eastern Mediterranean Business Cultural Alliance (embca.com), whose mission is to promote the professional business, educational, artistic and cultural interests of Eastern Mediterranean Americans in association with The Turkish American Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TACCI).

Tickets $20, available at the door or online at http://embca.com/event/rembetika-turkish-music-concert/.  Seating is first come first serve.  An artist reception with refreshments sponsored by TACCI will follow the concert.

Join us on Thursday, September 7th, 2017 at St. Peter’s Church at Citicorp Center (619 Lexington Avenue at 54th Street), for EMBCA’s exciting first of its kind event of this fall calendar with “The Hellenic Rembetika and Turkish Music Concert”. Our upcoming event is in association with the Turkish American Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TACCI) with the Turkish and International Music Ensemble, Inc. Music is universal in nature and we have fashioned a unique evening of musical bridge building and discovery in an authentic Hellenic Rembetiko ensemble led by Julie Ziavras vocalist/musical director and a Turkish international music ensemble led by Musical DirectorNedim Katgi an international musician, entertainer & singer.
