Interview with Doug Briney

Thanks for reading Hellenic News of America

Country singer Doug Briney chatted with Examiner.com’s Markos Papadatos about his most recent album, which was released on March 9.

“It really is a dream come true for me as it was something I had wanted to do for many years. Once I decided to do the album, I had a really hard time deciding what to do with it. For years I thought I would do a gospel CD but when the time came, I really felt like I should do a country CD. I began listening to music to find songs I enjoyed. I literally listened to over 300 songs to get to the ten that are on this CD,” he said.

“Six of the songs included on the CD were written or co-written by Pat Kelley and I really fell in love with his music. After all the recording was done, I listened to the tracks over and over and thought the song, ‘It’s All Country’ summed up the project really well. That song became the title track and it is currently the single that we have released as well. It is a great song about the changes in the sound of country music and I hope it helps bring all country fans together,” he added.

Regarding his plans for the future, he remarked, “My plans seem like they change and evolve constantly but there are a few things I know I would like to see happen this next year. I would like to do some touring outside of Alaska. If possible I would even like to get over to the U.K. and Germany as my music seems to be very popular there. I hope to get down to Nashville before this next spring and have the opportunity to perform there. I am beginning to put together a plan for my next CD and listening to some music.”

Doug has received a nomination for the 2013 “Southern Star Network Indie Artist of the Year” award. “It’s an honor just to be nominated. Now that I am there, I really have to say it is extremely humbling and a huge honor. I am really blown away by the nod. I do hope that folks get behind me and vote and I would like to win, but honestly I feel extremely blessed to have been nominated,” he shared.

Doug concluded, “I use social media a lot to stay connected and to develop connections. We also use the ‘News and Happenings’ page on my web page to let folks know what is happening. One of the funnest things we are doing is holding a fan of the month contest on our Facebook page. The winner gets a call from me and I love it. It’s a fun way to talk to folks and really hear their thoughts and connect with them.”
