A freighter on Monday rescued 62 migrants in a sailing boat south of the island of Kos, which was in distress due to strong winds and after it started taking on water.
The migrants were then transferred to a coast guard offshore patrol vessel, which took them to Kos reception and identification centre.
Earlier, a coast guard rescue operation had been launched in the same area to locate the sailing boat carrying the migrants, with the participation of three coast guard vessels and ships sailing in the vicinity.
