Marion “Marika” (nee Papouris), age 80, of Glen Mills PA, died April 26, 2015, at Lankenau Hospital after a sustained illness. Beloved wife of Arthur. Loving mother of Nick (Debi) and Paul (Cora). Devoted grandmother of Anthony, Evan, Alexander, Samuel and Nathaniel. Also survived by sister Mary P. Efstration. Predeceased by parents, Chrysanthe and Paul Papouris and sister, Theodora P. Dacales.
Marika, born in Philadelphia and a Temple Graduate, loved her career as a teacher until she retired from the Marple-Newtown School District in 1998. As a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Media she was proud of her Greek heritage and worked passionately with many Greek-American communities for decades, assembling and promoting events and projects, always with a special focus on youth knowledge, and participation. Marika’s love of music and dance was infectious and she was responsible for the formation and choreography of many Greek Folk Dance Troupes, Greek Music Bands, Parades, and Stage Shows. Always with a big smile, Marika loved the thrill of performance and Entertaining. She will be dearly missed by countless friends and family whose lives she touched.
Her Funeral Service will be 11 A.M., Wednesday, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 30 East Forge Road, Media PA 19063. Viewing one hour prior to Service in the Church. Interment Glennwood Memorial Gardens. Due to her passion for animals, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delaware County S.P.C.A.
