The Greek American community in New York City came together in grand style to celebrate Greek Independence Day at the WABC Radio Headquarters, hosted by philanthropists John and Margo Catsimatidis. This special event, organized by Eftihia Pylarinos Piper, Senior VP of Red Apple Group, not only commemorated Greece’s historic struggle for independence but also highlighted the cultural richness of the Greek-American community and its strong ties to Greece.

The evening began with a warm welcome from the Sinies Folklore Group, whose traditional music greeted guests and set the tone for the festivities. Opening remarks were made by John and Margo Catsimatidis, owners of WABC Radio and the Red Apple Group, and Eftihia Pylarinos Piper. Their speeches emphasized the importance of honoring Greek heritage while fostering deeper connections between the U.S. and Greece.

The event also featured a captivating performance by a traditional dance troupe from Corfu, led by Vice Mayor of North Corfu, Mr. John Garnelis, and the President of the Sinies Folklore Cultural Dance Group. Their vibrant performance, with stunning costumes and dynamic choreography, brought the beauty of Greek tradition to New York, delighting all in attendance.

Guests enjoyed a sumptuous feast, courtesy of food sponsors including Kyma Restaurants, led by Steve Tenedios, and Cap St. Georges Hotel & Resort, with business development support from Mr. Raj Brar. The exceptional cuisine celebrated the authentic flavors of Greece, adding to the evening’s festive atmosphere.
The celebration also featured a mesmerizing vocal performance by soprano Anastasia Zanis, who traveled all the way from Athens, Greece. Her powerful voice added elegance to the evening, further showcasing the cultural vibrancy of Greece.
John and Margo Catsimatidis, as longtime advocates for Hellenism and Greek culture, once again demonstrated their commitment to preserving and promoting Greek traditions. Their leadership continues to inspire and make a meaningful impact on the Greek-American community.
A heartfelt ευχαριστώ to John and Margo for making this event possible, and for their ongoing support of Hellenic heritage.
