CHICAGO, IL —The 2025 PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation Awards Ceremony & Gala was officially sold out, welcoming its largest audience ever—more than 750 guests—on June 14 at the Hilton Chicago.
This landmark event united Greek Americans from across the country in a shared commitment: to preserve Hellenic heritage while empowering the next generation of leaders through scholarships, mentorship, internships, and community.
Celebrating Educational Achievement: 50 Scholars, $250,000+ in Awards
At the heart of the evening’s purpose was the Foundation’s unwavering dedication to supporting academic achievement. This year, 50 outstanding Greek-American scholars were awarded over $250,000 in scholarships, helping them pursue higher education and achieve their dreams.
These awards represent not only financial support, but a community-wide investment in the next generation of leaders who will carry forward Hellenic values, cultural heritage, and a spirit of service.
What Makes the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation Gala Special?
The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation Gala is far more than a fundraising event, it is a multi-generational promise to honor the sacrifices of our ancestors while investing in the success of future Greek-American professionals.
The evening featured powerful speeches, new award traditions, and moving personal stories that showcased the strength of the Greek-American community and underscored values of hard work, integrity, and family.
Chairman Robert Buhler’s Call to Action
Chairman Robert Buhler opened the night with a deeply resonant message about the immigrant journey that defines so many Greek-American families.
He reminded the audience that generations ago, Greek immigrants arrived in the United States with little more than determination and the hope for a better future. They relied on the support of fellow Greeks who helped them despite having limited resources themselves.
Today, he emphasized, the challenges are different. Young Greek Americans must balance their heritage with the demands of modern life, facing social complexity, fierce competition, and evolving cultural expectations.
To meet these challenges, Buhler outlined the Foundation’s four-pronged strategy:
-
Expanding Internships: Securing 34 internship opportunities this year, with 25 successful placements at companies such as Kirkland & Ellis, Northwestern Medical, Athens Construction, and Wintrust.
-
Strengthening Mentorship: Hosting the 9th Annual Summer Mentorship Luncheon with 15 accomplished professionals offering invaluable guidance.
-
Delivering Webinars and Networking Events: Reaching over 475 attendees with eight events focused on career development and reinforcing Hellenic values.
-
Building a Culture of Giving: Encouraging the community to mentor, host interns, and provide financial support, echoing the spirit of the generations who built Greek-American communities through selfless giving.
The Foundation’s work is designed to empower the next generation while honoring the values that have sustained Hellenism in America.

The Inaugural Alumni Excellence Award
A centerpiece of the evening was the introduction of the Alumni Excellence Award, a new honor created to recognize PanHellenic alumni who continue to exemplify the Foundation’s mission long after receiving their scholarships.
The first recipient was Katerina Glyptis, a 2010 PanHellenic Scholarship recipient who now serves as the President of Tim Hortons U.S., leading more than 650 restaurants nationwide.
Katerina’s success story embodies the values of courage, gratitude, and leadership. She shared her appreciation for her family’s roots in Kios and reflected on the determination it took for earlier generations to build a better future. Her message encouraged today’s scholars to embrace their heritage as a source of strength while pursuing their ambitions confidently.
By establishing the Alumni Excellence Award, the Foundation celebrates alumni who combine professional achievement with humility, service, and a commitment to the Greek-American community.
Honoring Heritage Through Film: Echoes of the Past
Another highlight of the evening was the recognition of Cia and Tom Souleles for their production of Echoes of the Past, a film that powerfully memorializes one of Greece’s most tragic chapters: the Kalavryta Massacre of 1943.
Their journey began with a family trip to Kalavryta in 2013. Witnessing the town square marked by a clock forever frozen at the moment of the massacre, they felt compelled to tell this story.
Despite having no filmmaking experience, they spent eight years bringing the project to life, navigating funding challenges, pandemic disruptions, and production hurdles. The film secured legendary actor Max von Sydow for the lead role in what would be his final performance, underscoring the importance of the story.
Echoes of the Past became the number-one film in Greece for two consecutive months. More than entertainment, it stands as an enduring tribute to the victims, a testament to resilience, and a call for all generations to remember the sacrifices that underpin our freedoms today.
The 2025 Paradigm Award: Cia and Tom Souleles
In recognition of their extraordinary commitment to cultural preservation and historical storytelling, Cia and Tom Souleles were presented with the 2025 Paradigm Award.
Echoes of the Past is more than a film, it is a promise fulfilled. It ensures that the horrors of the Kalavryta Massacre, where Nazi forces executed nearly the entire male population of the town and left it in ruins, are never forgotten.
Cia and Tom Souleles dedicated years of their lives to bringing this history to the screen, demonstrating a profound respect for their heritage and a determination to share its lessons with the world.
Their work is a powerful example of how storytelling can preserve cultural memory, honor those who came before us, and inspire future generations to carry forward the values of courage, resilience, and faith.
A Night That Inspires Generations
As over 750 guests rose in a final standing ovation, the message of the 2025 PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation Awards Ceremony & Gala was unmistakable.
This is not just a scholarship program, it is a living legacy. It is a promise to remember our ancestors’ sacrifices, support one another in the present, and build a strong, proud future for Hellenism in America.
From awarding over $250,000 to 50 deserving scholars, to Chairman Robert Buhler’s rallying call for mentorship and giving back, to Katerina Glyptis’s example of alumni excellence, to Cia and Tom Souleles’s dedication to preserving history through film, the Gala showcased what the Greek-American community can achieve when united in purpose.
The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation stands as a testament to the enduring power of heritage, community, and the shared vision of building a brighter, more connected future.
