COOK COUNTY –Today, the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, under the leadership of Clerk Mariyana T. Spyropoulos, hosted its first annual Greek Heritage Month celebration. The program honored individuals of Greek decent in public service, recognizing individuals whose leadership and public duty supports the residents of Cook County every day.
During the ceremony, Clerk Spyropoulos presented the Office’s Greek Heritage Month Leadership Awards to Honorable Tom Sianis, Supervising Judge in the First Municipal District Traffic Division; Honorable Anthony Kyriakopoulos, Circuit Judge over Calendar 52 in the Mortgage/Mechanic’s Lien Section of the Chancery Division; Hellenic Bar Association; Tom Kokos and Peter Rogakos, two employees of the Clerk’s Office recognized for their years of dedicated service.
“Heritage is the bridge between our past and our future, and celebrating it keeps our history alive,” said Clerk Spyropoulos. “It is my pleasure to share my Greek heritage with the office as we honor the diversity that makes up Cook County.”
Kate Chappell, NBC 5 Chicago anchor and reporter, served as emcee, and Marianne Kountoures, Executive Director of the National Hellenic Museum, delivered keynote remarks. Emmanuel Koubarakis, Consul General of Greece in Chicago, attended as a special guest.
The program also featured a Greek dance performance by the Perifania Dance Troupe. Bites from Greek Islands allowed atendees to experince Greek flavors.
The Clerk’s Office Greek Heritage Month celebration serves as one of many examples of Clerk Spyropoulos’ commitment to recognizing diverse cultures and sharing traditions for a more inclusive Cook County.
