A Call for Compassion, Hope, and Solidarity Across the Cypriot and Greek-American Community
As the Easter season approaches—a time rooted in faith, renewal, and compassion—the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations (FCAO) is once again calling upon the community to come together in support of Mya Georgiades, a young girl whose medical journey continues to present significant challenges for her and her family.
The FCAO has stood beside Mya and her family since she was just six years old, offering ongoing assistance and advocacy. Today, that support remains as vital as ever.
A Courageous Journey
Mya Georgiades was born on September 14, 2015. At just 14 months old, she was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, marking the beginning of a long and difficult medical journey. In January 2017, she underwent two major surgeries. Despite initial treatment, the tumor later recurred, requiring continued and intensive medical care.
Most recently, in January 2026, her oncology team in Washington, D.C. identified a possible increase in tumor activity and recommended a new course of treatment.
While Mya is currently stable and not in significant pain, her condition remains complex. She faces serious neurological challenges, including paralysis on the left side of her body. She is unable to walk and requires round-the-clock care, along with ongoing therapies such as physical and occupational therapy.
A Family Facing Growing Challenges
Mya’s medical needs have placed a profound emotional and financial strain on her family. With her father serving as the sole provider and her mother dedicating herself full-time to Mya’s care, the costs associated with treatments, therapies, and frequent travel continue to increase.
The family is currently experiencing financial hardship, including difficulty keeping up with mortgage payments due to the ongoing demands of Mya’s condition.
A Community United in Support
In the spirit of Easter and its message of hope and renewal, the FCAO is asking members of the community to consider supporting Mya and her family once again.
Every contribution—no matter the amount—can help ensure that Mya continues to receive the care and treatment she needs, with the hope that one day she may regain mobility and live as full and independent a life as possible.
“This is a moment for our community to come together in compassion,” the Federation shared. “Mya’s journey reminds us of the strength of faith, the power of unity, and the importance of supporting one another in times of need.”

Initiatives like this reflect the enduring values of philotimo, compassion, and collective responsibility that define the community.
As Easter approaches, this call to action serves as a reminder that even the smallest act of generosity can bring light and hope to those facing unimaginable challenges.
