America’s Sole Greek VFW Post Takes Lead in Parade Historic
Eleftheria VFW Post 6633, the only post of Hellenic American Veterans in the United States, lead the 2026 Philadelphia Greek Independence Day Parade. The parade float is accompanied by Post leadership, including Commander George Roebas, Quartermaster Curtis Cummings, Vice Commander and Archon George Reganis, Chaplain Tom Antonakis, and fellow members and their families.
Following the end of World War II, returning Hellenic American veterans from the Greater Philadelphia area recognized that they were among the fortunate few who survived the war while many of their comrades never returned home. In their memory, they established a veterans organization dedicated to honoring those sacrifices and ensuring that the service and Hellenic pride of the men and women who served their country would never be overlooked or forgotten.
Eleftheria’s members served in all branches of this country’s military services and in all its operational theaters. The organization continued to grow following the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm, and reach its peak of more 220 veterans of foreign wars.
