The Finance Ministry is working closely with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the European Union to incorporate the aspect of climate change in the state budget, Greek Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Tuesday at the online meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action.
The Coalition is meeting as part of the 2021 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.
It is the first time in Greece’s history that the budget explicitly refers to the aspect of climate, Staikouras said, while all public investments in the “Greece 2.0” national recovery plan incorporate the principle of “not creating significant damage.”
The Coalition numbers 65 countries and the meetings emphasize “the key role of Ministries of Finance in helping tackle climate change,” an online statement said.
