On March 28, 2018, the Greek-American community on Long Island mourns the loss of a great man, Dimitrios “Jimmy” Karounos. He is survived by his dedicated, loving wife, Irene, and his three sons, Panagiotis (“Taki”), Haralambos (“Bobby”) and Georgios (“George”). He was 66 years old.
Jimmy was a genuine, humble person, and while he may have been a man of a few words, his actions spoke louder. He spoke with great wisdom, just like his Greek ancestors. His laugh was infectious, and it instantly lit up a room. He worked very hard his whole life to provide for his wife and children, and he loved them wholeheartedly in return. He was a devoted family-man, extremely reliable, and loyal to his friends and acquaintances, and anybody who ever needed a helping hand. A true fighter, Jimmy persevered through any obstacles and challenges that life through at him. His strength, brevity and love for his family are an inspiration to us all.
Jimmy loved the Greek-American community, his heritage, and he loved reading Greek newspapers every morning, especially The National Herald (“The Ethnikos Kirikas”).
May he Rest In Peace (R.I.P.). May his memory be forever eternal!
