An operation to save 28 persons trapped on an islet in the Evros River, in a northern part of the Evros prefecture, was concluded successfully.
Specifically, according to information given by the Fire Brigade to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, 21 men, two women and five minors were trapped on the islet. A rescue operation was mounted by 10 fire brigade rescue workers and members of the 4th EMAK rescue team, who transported the trapped migrants to a safe location by boat.
The rescued migrants were reported to be safe and well and were led to Orestiada police headquarters.
