The owners and staff of Neraki Greek Mediterranean Grill have a major reason to be proud. It was named “Best Greek Restaurant” on Long Island for the second consecutive year.

It is located in Huntington, New York, and it is co-owned by Alex and Olga Moschos. Power-journalist Markos Papadatos had the chance to sit down at Neraki Greek Mediterranean Grill and chat with co-owner Alex Moschos, about this fan-voted recognition.

On being recognized by the Long Island Press as the “Best Greek Restaurant” for the second consecutive year, Alex said, “We are absolutely honored. We cannot even express how happy we are about winning it two years in a row. It’s such an honor to be considered the ‘Best Greek Restaurant on Long Island’ with such great competition that we have on Long Island. This is beyond our wildest dreams.”

Regarding their plans for the future, he said, “We are constantly looking to modify our menu, to bring in new products and new specials. We are looking to bring in some different fish and Greek specialties. We are actually tapping into my grandmother’s old cookbook and we are going over some new recipes. We recently just brought in some new appetizers that were hers, which is what she made for me as a little boy. One of them is called ‘humus tsepes,’ which translates into ‘humus pockets,’ which is a Greek wonton. It is excellent and healthy. We really emphasize the Mediterranean diet and healthy food.”

On his thoughts on the Greek-American community, Alex concluded, “We wouldn’t be here without the Greek-America community. We are very lucky to have them and they support us through and through. We have stuck to creating Greek food as it was meant to be made. We really have stayed true to the traditional style of Greek cooking (olive oil, lemon, oregano and spices), and traditional foods that my grandmother made for us, and that’s what so important to us.”
