Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed the country’s economic performance and outlook at a roundtable discussion held in Athens on Monday.

It was held on the occasion of the 33rd Greek Economic Summit (GES 2022), ‘Big Bets in Challenging Times’, organized by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce on December 5-6.

On attracting investments, the premier noted that pursuing those “is easier than it was 3.5 years ago,” as investors back then “would have to take some convincing that things here would really changeand we would put our finances in order.” In the present time, Mitsotakis stressed, “it is much easier because we can show actual results.”

There are quite significant challenges faced by Greece, he pointed out, but expressed the conviction that Greece will fare better than the rest of Europe in 2023, stressing that reforms will continue.

As far as energy policy is concerned, the PM noted that his government wants to see Greece become “a world leader in green transition (…), and Europe’s hub for liquified natural gas.”

In response to a follow-up question about RES and the country’s green transition, he said said Greece has the advantage of plenty of sun, wind and water, and that it is “already playing a leading role in RES.” Mitsotakis added that Greece’s projected energy production from green sources is expected to “reach 25 KW by 2030, and to be an exporter of RES-produced energy.”
