Prometheus Association Ends a Successful Year with Christmas Party

An internet presence, non-profit and New York tax-exempt status are some of the accomplishments of the 2015 Prometheus Greek Teachers Association. A Christmas party celebrating the end of 2015 was held on Sunday afternoon, December 13^th in Sts. Catherine & George Church hall at 22-30 33^rd St. in Astoria, New York.  Santa Claus, a lavish luncheon and book presentation made this a cultural experience.

“All the good things in our lives, we get from the light of the Sun,” is a statement of wisdom from the education fairy tale “The Adventures of Aris” by Pauline S. Manos.¹ The education fairy tale inspired the audience. The children’s book is bilingual Greek/English. The book’s plot is about Aris, the teddy bear, who had many al adventures. A lecture on “The significance of Amphipolis to Greek Education” by Prof. Alexandros Colombos will be held on Sunday, Jan. 17^th, 2 p.m. at the Hellenic Cultural Center. A book presentation by Maria Kaliambou entitled “How can we learn Greek through Myths,” will be offered.

The Fortieth Anniversary Luncheon of the Greek Teachers Association “Prometheus” will be held Sunday, February 28^th, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Terrace on the Park, Flushing, N.Y. The event is in cooperation with the Federation of Greek Educators, Hellenic PAIDEA of America and other organizations. His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios will honor the event with his presence. Mrs. Maria Makedon, Director of the Office of Education of the Direct Archdiocesan District will be honored. The presidents of “Prometheus” will be recognized for distinguished service. They include: Konstantinos Parthenis; Elias Diakolios; John Markopoulos; Dr. John Siolas; Timoleon Kokkinos; John Takas; Athena Kromidas; George Kanellopoulos; Dr. Andreas Zachariou; Eleni Galidis; Irene Demas; Stella Kokolis; Apostolos Fountas; Vasiliki Filiotis and Demosthenes Triantafillou. Tickets are $75 for adults and $45 for children. Musical melodies by Grigoris Maninakis.
