As June marks the official launch of the summer, a promising early start for the Greek tourism season has turned into firm bookings for the coming months and Greece is also becoming a destination for foreign investments directed to tourism, according to statements by the president of the Hellenic Hoteliers’ Federation Georgios Tasios to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA), published on Sunday.

Tasios reported very good figures for all Greek destinations, saying that tourism revenues in 2022 could be as high as 15 billion euros, or 80 pct of the revenues in 2019. This was even true for northern Greece, he added, which had been most affected by the war in Ukraine.

While May was lost, he added, an “explosive” increase in high-spending arrivals from the United States and Canada set the tone, showing that Greece was a safe destination.
In spite of the above, he noted, this will be another difficult year for the hotel sector due to an increase in operating costs in energy and food.

He commented on the opening for the first Brown Hotels five-start resort in Greece, at Agioi Theodoroi in Corinth, saying that it was extremely encouraging that big brands were looking at alternatives to the already-established destinations.

In comments concerning Greece as a tourism destination, Israel’s Tourism Minister Yoel Razvozov said it was one of the foremost destinations due to the varied experiences that it offers, including its wine and food, while remaining a value-for-money destination.
