The Authentic Marathon is back. After an absence of one year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, on Sunday (14/11) the start will be given -again- at the historic starting point of the Marathon (09:00) for the 38th Race.
The 42,195 meters of the original route, traveled by the soldier Efklis in 490 BC, sacrificing his life to carry the news of the victory from the Battle of Marathon to Athens, will run 9,800 runners divided into two groups with different hours (difference 45 minutes). Each group is divided into eight “blocks” to avoid overcrowding due to precautionary measures for Covid-19.
The completion of the Race has been set at a time limit of seven hours and the finish of the 38th Authentic Marathon will take place at the Panathinaiko Stadium, where the runners will cover the last 170 meters of the route. A total of 27,800 runners from 83 countries and 100 different nationalities will take part in the 5,000-meter, 10,000-meter and Marathon races, with a 75% dominance of male runners in all three races.
