The “successive crises of recent years have tested us, and taught us that our unity and cohesion are connected with solidarity and a deep awareness that beyond mere individuals we are also members of the social whole,” noted Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou in her New Year message on Saturday.
She paid emphasis on the impact of the war in Ukraine, which “rearranges geopolitical balances,” while underlining that amidst a volatile international environment “our country is a factor of stability and security in the Balkans and the South-Eastern Mediterranean.”
Sakellaropoulou also underlined that “our notion of self includes all other people,” and that “our hopes and prospects for tomorrow are based on this conviction.”
Earlier on Saturday, Sakellaropoulou heard New Year’s carols by the Greek Armed Forces band and the band of the Presidential Guard, and she also welcomed children from the “Ukrainian Cultural & Educational Center Bereginia”, who also sang carols to Sakellaropoulou.
