“We must survive as a nation by inspiring the study of our Greek language and history,” said educator Vasiliki Filiotis at the 33rd Hermes Expo on June 19th. “We must transmit the sacred flame of the study of Greek to the next generation. Greece is the land of heroes, martyrs, poets, and philosophers. It is an eternal symbol of Western civilization. The entire Western world has turned to Greek in its quest for a cultural identity. Poet Percy Bysshe Shelley said, ‘We are all Greeks. Our laws, our literature, our religion, our arts have their roots in Greece.’ These are the aims of The Hellenic Paideia of America Organization.”

Mrs. Stella Kokolis, President of the Federation of Hellenic American Educators and Cultural Associations of America, said, “Dr. Filiotis is honored for her contributions to Hellenic education and culture for many years. She perpetuates our Hellenic values and language.”
Dr. Filiotis holds a Ph.D. in Political Science, a Master of Science in Education and Political Science, and a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from CUNY Graduate Center. “The Greek communities pay millions for Greek Studies in universities. Our children should take advantage of this opportunity,” she explained. “We support Modern Greek language studies and urge all youth to enroll.” Educator Vasiliki Filiotis is dedicating her life to this purpose. Congratulations!
