The World Olympians Association (WOA) marked a historic moment during its 2nd virtual World Olympians Assembly with the election of Stavroula Kozompoli, OLY, as a member of the Executive Committee, representing Europe as the female representative. Her election, secured by the vote of a vast majority of European representatives, underscores the strong confidence placed in her leadership, vision, and commitment to Olympian values.
Kozompoli, who also serves as President of the Hellenic Olympians Association, expressed deep appreciation for the trust shown by her fellow Olympians, emphasizing that this role is both an honor and a responsibility. Her appointment strengthens the presence of Hellenic Olympians within global Olympian leadership and reinforces Europe’s voice within the WOA’s decision-making body.
The Assembly also ushered in a landmark chapter for the international Olympian community with the election of Pernilla Wiberg, OLY, as President of the World Olympians Association, making her the first woman to hold the position. This milestone follows the recent election of Kirsty Coventry, OLY, as President of the International Olympic Committee, signaling a broader shift toward inclusive leadership at the highest levels of global sport.
In her remarks, Kozompoli extended congratulations to all newly elected colleagues, while also acknowledging the Olympians who stood as candidates but were not elected. She highlighted that their willingness to serve, contribute ideas, and uphold Olympian values remains vital to the strength and unity of the Association.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude to her peers, Kozompoli reaffirmed her commitment to supporting Olympians worldwide, amplifying their voices, and working toward a more connected and unified global Olympian community. Her message echoed the enduring spirit of the Olympic Movement, service, and lifelong dedication.
As the World Olympians Association continues to evolve, this election stands as a powerful reminder that once an Olympian, always an Olympian, and that the shared journey of Olympians worldwide continues to move forward with purpose and unity.
