It is with heavy hearts, but profound gratitude for a life well lived, that we remember Mark Denis Mousouris, who peacefully passed from this life on June 10, 2026 at the age of 75 surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy rooted in his deep love of God, devotion to his family, and a generosity of spirit that touched everyone who knew him.
Mark never met a stranger. Whether meeting someone for the first time or reconnecting with a lifelong friend, he had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, special and loved. He was genuinely curious about the people he met and found joy in hearing their stories, experiences, and perspectives. Mark was a gifted storyteller whose humor, wisdom, charisma, and kind heart drew people close to him. To his family, he was the rock upon whom they could always depend.
Born in Portsmouth, Virginia on September 15, 1950, Mark was the beloved son of the late Denis and Irene Mousouris. A lifelong resident of Hampton Roads, he graduated from Granby High School and continued his education at Old Dominion University, where he earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees.
After the loss of his father at an early age, he assumed the role of family leader with strength, love, and unwavering dedication. The values of responsibility, faith, and family that guided him during those years remained the foundation of his life.
Mark built a successful career in commercial real estate, owning and managing his own business with integrity and perseverance. His success was not measured solely by the business he built, but by the trust and respect he earned from those around him. Though he accomplished much throughout his life, Mark carried himself with humility and authenticity, making success look effortless.
Mark devoted the same energy and dedication to serving his church and community. As an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Mark’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life. He was deeply committed to both his church and his Greek heritage, generously giving his time and talents in service to the community. As a proud member and past President of both AHEPA and the Cephalonian and Ithakesian Society, he worked tirelessly to preserve the traditions and values which meant so much to him. Many knew and loved him as the familiar face behind the “loukoumades” booth at the annual Greek Festival, where his welcoming smile and dedication became a cherished part of the event.
Above all, family was at the center of Mark’s life. In 1988, he married the love of his life, Patricia Touzos Mousouris, beginning a partnership that would span decades of love, devotion, and mutual respect. They navigated life’s joys and challenges, always finding strength in one another. Their enduring bond was the heart of a family grounded in love, strengthened by faith, and enriched by countless memories, traditions, and the simple gifts of everyday life.
Together, Mark and Patricia raised two exceptional daughters, Andrea Marafatsos and Denise Northrup, who brought immeasurable pride and joy to his life. As a one-of-a-kind father, he shared a close and loving bond with each of them, always offering guidance, support, and a listening ear, while loving them wholeheartedly through every triumph and challenge. He welcomed his sons-in-law, Christos Marafatsos and Chris Northrup, into the family with open arms and cherished the close relationship they shared. Of all the blessings in his life, none brought him greater happiness than becoming a “Pappou”. He adored his two beloved granddaughters, Markella Marafatsos and Aspasia Northrup, who filled his heart with immense joy. Being their Pappou was among the greatest gifts of his life, and he treasured every moment with them.
In addition to his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and granddaughters, Mark is survived by his loving sisters, Patricia Meliagros (Dennis †) and Mary Girevendulis (Dr. Alexander), whom he deeply loved and adored, his dear aunt Anthoula Kapos, his devoted parents-in-law, Andrew and Sylvia Touzos, and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dr. Mike and Nia Kokorelis, Chris and Tena Canavos, and Dr. Alexander Girevendulis, who loved him like a true son and brother. He is also survived by his beloved cousins in the U.S. and Greece, nieces, nephews, godchildren, simbetheroi, and cherished friends, including Jerry Bowman, who was his best friend of sixty-two years.
He took great pride in creating special memories for his family, such as their many trips to Kefalonia, Greece, a land which held deep meaning to him. Through these travels, he shared with them not only his adventurous spirit but also his profound appreciation for the history, culture, and tradition of his ancestral home. Mark also shared his love of sports with his daughters, spending many weekends playing tennis and watching his beloved Boston Red Sox, Dallas Cowboys, and ODU Monarchs.
Though his passing leaves a devastating void, Mark’s enduring legacy will live on through his family for generations to come. The love he gave so freely shall remain woven into the hearts of all who were blessed to call him husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend. Thank you for loving us so well. We will miss you beyond measure.
May His Memory Be Eternal.
