The Greek Archdiocese of America has decided to proceed with the establishment of a Relief Fund for the fire victims of Greece with the aim of supporting the regions of Attica that were affected by the devastating fires at the beginning of August. The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society also participates in this initiative, which has already approved a donation of 50,000 dollars.
Announcing the establishment of the Fund, the Archbishop of America Elpidophoros stated: “Once again, we call on our faithful to help in the relief of our brothers in Greece. Our Archdiocese will finance the restoration of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Axion Esti, so that it can continue its spiritual offering.”
A delegation of the Archdiocese will travel to Greece and meet with the Archbishop of Athens Ieronymos, in order to be informed about the extent of the disaster in the area of his jurisdiction, to prioritize needs, identify sources of funding and organize a full support plan.
