On Sunday, June 4, Lurie Cancer Center and Northwestern Medicine hosted the highly anticipated 30th Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration Walk & 5K at Grant Park. The event, proudly supported by the Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation (HCRF) and Eleni Bousis, chair of its founding board, brought together cancer survivors, their families, friends, physicians, scientists, and care providers in a vibrant community celebration.
Taking place on National Cancer Survivors Day, the event served as a remarkable opportunity for individuals who have faced or are facing cancer to connect and commemorate milestones alongside their dedicated support systems. The Cancer Survivors’ Celebration began in Grant Park’s Arvey Field at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K Run at 9:15 a.m. and the Walk at 10:00 a.m.
In alignment with the event’s mission to advance cancer prevention and treatment, participants were encouraged to create personalized online fundraising pages to support Lurie Cancer Center’s groundbreaking research and survivorship programs. Fundraising was optional, with no minimum donation required.
In a recent interview with Eleni Bousis, featured in the Hellenic News of America, it was highlighted that the Hippocratic Cancer Research Fund (HCRF) plays a pivotal role in supporting the research endeavors of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. One of the standout achievements of HCRF is their annual Wings to Cure Gala, which successfully raised over $1.5 million in 2022 to further advance the center’s groundbreaking work. Such contributions contribute significantly to the ongoing fight against cancer and offer hope for innovative breakthroughs in the field of oncology.
The Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation Presents its 9th annual The Wings To Cure Gala on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Chicago’s Navy Pier! For more information on donating or attending please go to www.hcrfwingstocure.com
