The need for food sufficiency but also food safety are the common goals of Greece and the European Union, Minister of Rural Development and Food, Kostas Tsiaras underlined, during his speech at the conference organized by the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) under the title: “Risk Assessment and Ranking of Risks in European Food Safety Systems.”
According to the ministry’s announcement, Tsiaras stated that “ensuring sufficient, safe and high-quality food for all Europeans is our common goal. However, this goal cannot be achieved unless we ensure the balance between food sufficiency and food safety” underlining that “these two priorities must go hand in hand and be integrated into all the strategies and policies we develop for the future”.
In parallel he pointed out the critical contribution of EFET, which acts as Greece’s point of contact with European and international organisations, such as EFSA, utilising the most modern scientific knowledge for the protection of public health and consumers.
Finally, Tsiaras noted that “decisions taken today will determine safety for the next generations. Europe’s future requires the continued cooperation of all of us to ensure that we all continue to enjoy high-quality, safe and sustainable food for their health and well-being.”
