Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in a Facebook post where he provides the weekly report on the government’s work, emphasizes that at a time when major European countries cannot even pass a budget, Greece is making steady progress and convergence.
“ We are the first to acknowledge that we are not yet where we want to be. But we have laid the foundations for a good economic course that allows us to accelerate and expand social policies,” Mitsotakis said, referring to the positive measures in the state budget. In particular, he mentions the full exemption from pharmaceutical expenses for an additional 132,000 low pensioners, the satisfaction of the persistent demand of the security forces and the armed forces for a hazard allowance of 100 euros per month. The 153,000 members of the armed forces will receive this allowance from 1 July. “With our 10 new initiatives to limit bank commissions and strengthen competition, we are sending a message of fairness and common sense against practices that disproportionately burden banking and interbank transactions of individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises,” he said.
In addition, Mitsotakis points out that Greece remains in the top 5 in terms of absorption of resources from the Recovery Fund.
He also notes that according to EUROSTAT, in November Greece had the second lowest food inflation among the 27 EU members.
Mitsotakis also refers to the issue of children and young people’s addiction to social media. “Without demonizing technology, we focus on protecting minors from digital addiction. On December 30, at a special event with all relevant ministers, we will present our comprehensive plan to tackle a real problem,” he notes.
