In an exclusive interview with the Hellenic News of America, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Kotsiras unveiled the Ministry’s ambitious Strategic Plan for Greeks Abroad 2024–2027. This groundbreaking initiative, presented in Athens with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in attendance, represents the first comprehensive and modernized strategy aimed at strengthening ties between Greece and the global Greek Diaspora.

The new strategic plan embodies a bold vision: a holistic and innovative approach to foster closer bonds with Greeks worldwide. Focusing on six key objectives, the plan outlines over 100 actionable steps to:
- Upgrade consular services.
- Support and develop Diaspora networks.
- Enhance Greece’s international image through collaboration with the Diaspora.
- Promote the Greek language, history, traditions, and culture.
- Strengthen ties with the Greek Orthodox Church.
- Advance bilateral and multilateral cooperation in Diaspora affairs.
“This initiative is designed to address the needs of Greeks abroad, solidify their connection to our heritage, and amplify their influence on the global stage,” stated Deputy Minister Kotsiras.
Cultural, Educational, and Economic Collaboration
To foster stronger cultural, educational, and economic ties, the Strategic Plan emphasizes partnerships between Greek and international universities, enhancing programs for student exchanges, internships, and collaborative research. Additionally, the Ministry supports Diaspora cultural projects such as film festivals, exhibitions, and conferences, while providing resources for communities to preserve Hellenism.
On the economic front, mapping Diaspora business activities and promoting partnerships between Greek and Diaspora entrepreneurs are critical elements. The Ministry also aims to integrate Greece’s innovation ecosystem with global professionals to facilitate skill-sharing and entrepreneurship.
“These measures will inspire renewed connections and meaningful collaboration between Greece and its global community,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
Engaging Younger Generations: A Modern Approach
Recognizing the importance of younger Greeks in sustaining Hellenism, the plan integrates digital tools to ensure reciprocal communication. Programs like “Career Days,” launching in Düsseldorf, Germany, aim to inform young Greeks about career opportunities in Greece and incentives for repatriation.
Hospitality programs, including summer camps and educational trips, offer immersive experiences for Diaspora youth, strengthening their ties to their roots. Additionally, the “staellinika.com” platform will incorporate artificial intelligence to make Greek language learning more accessible and engaging.
