Honorary Distinction for the Governor of Thessaly, Dimitrios Kouretas, from the City of Tarpon Springs
The Governor of Thessaly, Mr. Dimitrios Kouretas, experienced a particularly honorable moment during his official visit to Tarpon Springs, Florida—a city with a strong Greek presence and a long tradition of preserving Greek heritage.
During his visit, Mr. Kouretas met with Greek-American Congressman Gus Bilirakis and the Greek-American Mayor of Tarpon Springs the Honorable Panagiotis Koulias. Both officials warmly welcomed him, emphasizing the importance of the ties between Greece and the Greek diaspora. As a token of appreciation and recognition for his contributions to strengthening these relations, the Mayor presented Mr. Kouretas with the Key to the City—one of the highest honors awarded to distinguished individuals who actively promote cultural and economic cooperation.
In further discussions, Mr. Kouretas had the opportunity to talk with Congressman Bilirakis about Greece-U.S. relations, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the promotion of Greek interests abroad. They also explored development opportunities for the Region of Thessaly, aiming to create new prospects for its citizens and businesses.
Following the meeting, the Governor gave an interview to a local television channel, Greekvoice where he discussed his close connections with the Greek diaspora and the Thessaly Region’s initiatives to enhance cultural and business relations with the Greek community abroad. The interview was conducted by Mr. Angelos Angelatos, who focused on the potential for future collaboration with the dynamic Greek-American community in Florida.
