In the heart of Clark, Stirling, and Vauxhall, New Jersey, three thriving restaurants reflect the legacy of Greek-American entrepreneur Manny Niotis. A proud native of Karpathos, Greece, Manny has spent over four decades building a successful hospitality and real estate portfolio that now stands as a shining example of the American dream. With more than ten restaurants launched throughout his career, his story is deeply rooted in resilience, family values, and a profound love for Greek culture and cuisine.
Karpathos, a picturesque island in the Dodecanese, shaped Manny’s character early in life. Known for its strong sense of community and rich culinary heritage, the island instilled in him the values of hard work, hospitality, and perseverance. These principles became the foundation of his journey after immigrating to the United States with his wife Evangelia, who played a pivotal role in the family’s early catering ventures and real estate pursuits.
Manny’s introduction to the American restaurant industry began modestly. Like many immigrants, he worked from the ground up—bussing tables, washing dishes, and mastering every aspect of food service. These challenging early years provided him with the knowledge and discipline to eventually open his first restaurant, Manny’s Texas Weiners, in 1979. The restaurant quickly became a local favorite in New Jersey, known for its hearty portions, welcoming atmosphere, and reliable quality. More than 45 years later, it continues to serve the community, drawing loyal customers from across generations.
Building on that momentum, Manny expanded into new culinary territory with the launch of 12 Island Greek Taverna, a restaurant concept inspired by the Dodecanese islands, especially his beloved Karpathos. The taverna earned praise for its authentic Greek offerings such as souvlaki, moussaka, grilled seafood, and other traditional dishes prepared with care and pride. Its warm, family-style service and commitment to excellence created a dining experience that reflected the true spirit of Greek philoxenia.
Throughout his career, Manny has remained closely connected to the Greek-American community. In addition to building restaurants, he has supported local schools, churches, and cultural organizations, contributing to events and sponsorships that celebrate Hellenic identity. His strong belief in community and giving back has been a constant thread in both his personal and professional life, reinforcing the importance of preserving Greek heritage in the diaspora.
The success of his restaurants and his enduring presence in the community are a testament to the power of hard work, cultural pride, and the entrepreneurial spirit. Manny’s journey from Karpathos to New Jersey is more than a story of business achievement; it is a story of identity, perseverance, and the desire to build something meaningful while honoring one’s roots.
Today, Manny Niotis continues to grow his restaurant group while mentoring the next generation and investing in opportunities that celebrate Greek-American entrepreneurship. His story exemplifies what can be achieved when heritage, heart, and hustle come together in pursuit of a dream. Through every dish served and every connection made, Manny honors his past while shaping a future filled with opportunity, pride, and purpose.
